Personal Project

Philadelphia miles, recovery, attention, and the photographs that happen when the camera comes along for the route.

Over the past year, I’ve picked up running and logged more than 400+ miles throughout Philadelphia. A surprising amount of my personal photography has come from those runs. I’ll often carry my iPhone 16 or a Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom because some of my favorite images happen when I’m not looking for them - along the Schuylkill River Trail, on quiet Fairmount side streets, or past the old Philadelphia rowhomes and back streets I’ve passed dozens of times before.

Running has also become an exercise in patience and persistence. Working through five recently fractured ribs and persistent psoas tightness I've dealt with since my teens has pushed me to learn more about movement and recovery - from the roles of the psoas, QL, diaphragm and fascia to breathing, mobility, stretching and strengthening techniques that help me manage discomfort and keep moving.

More than anything, this new journey has taught me how much progress can come from consistently pursuing something difficult, testing what works, and staying committed even when improvement is incremental.

That mindset carries directly into my creative work. Running has taught me to stay observant, keep moving, and be ready when something unexpected catches my eye - because some of the strongest photographs are the ones I never planned to take.
